Best period to visit Tibet is from April to early June and September to October. These periods are are the best time to visit Tibet as well as visit Everest Base camp from north side. You still can visit November and December which are winter but the visibility of Everest at this time are just fabulous. It is perfect time of year for photography.
If you want to visit Tibet from Nepal you need to get a Tibet Travel Permit prior to your entry at Tibet, this is must otherwise you are not allow to board a flight or train. These are steps to obtain Tibet Travel Permit and visa in Kathmandu.
1. Finalize your itinerary to Tibet, send your passport copy (photo page) to us, it would take 10 days to get your Tibet Travel permit.
2. You need to arrive in Kathmandu and overnight 3 days. We will take your passport and filled application form along with your travel permit, you will be able to get your Chine Tibet visa on 3rd day. Please note that normal Chinese visa to enter mainland China is not valid/enough to visit Tibet. Tibet has a special requirement like above. Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu opens Monday to Friday only.
If you are entering Tibet from other parts of China, procedure is that you need to apply Chinese visa from your nearest consulate / Embassy and send a scan copy of your Chinese visa and your passport at least 20 days prior to your tour to Tibet. Our contact in Lhasa will do the processing and send your visa and Travel permits to your hotel or airport, train station from where you enter Tibet.
