Annapurna
Annapurna Himalayas range lies between Marsyangdi and Kali Gandaki river. The Kali Gandaki valley is one of the deepest gorge in the world. It is the trade route to Mustang and Tibet and the pilgrimage route to Muktinath and Damodar Kund. Besides that, it is also the migratory route for Siberian birds.
Annapurna region offers fascinating landscape, Bhotia (Tibetan) Buddhist culture mixed with local tradition, high Himalayan pass, panoramic view of Annapurna range, and beautiful villages in the middle hills of Annapurna. The middle hills are accessible by road and many foot trails made by local traders. These regions are populated by various ethnic groups including Hindus. You will be amazed to experience rapidly changing landscape, culture, weather and vegetation as you travel from the middle hill to higher elevation within a week time. The trail through the deep gorges and high pass are high points of the trek in the Annapurna region.
Mt. Annapurna (8169m) located east of Kali Gandaki valley was the first 8000-meter peak climbed and succeeded by French climbers led by Maurice Herzog in April 1950. This is a milestone in the history of climbing. This heralds the beginning of climbing and exploration in Nepal. H.W.Tilman who had led the 1938 Everest expedition explored the Marsyangdi valley in the summer of 1950 in the quest to climb Annapurna IV (8158m) from the Manang side. At that time he led prospective members of the British Everest expedition. Though the attempt was deterred the expedition team made an extensive exploration of the area.
Later in 1957 Col. J.O.M. Robert led a British expedition team to climb Machhapuchare. Probably this is the first time foreigner visited the upper part of Modi Khola that leads to Annapurna Sanctuary. Thus the Annapurna region and Annapurna mountain range were exposed to the world of adventurers.
The terraced rice field and Gurung villages against the backdrop of the spectacular and panoramic Annapurna massif provide an everlasting first-time experience. There are many trails off the main trail that interlink villages that are unspoiled and little known. You will have the opportunity to experience culture and nature.
Both, long and short treks of several days can be arranged in this area. Short treks are in the foothill and longer duration treks goes around the Annapurna massif and into the Annapurna sanctuary. Depending on your physical condition and the duration of your holiday you may choose several treks that can suit you and your budget.
