Domestic Tour Packages
The Trips are Specifically catered to Domestic Tourists only
According to the old tourism act, local travellers travelling inside the country for tourism purpose are not considered as tourists. Therefore there are no statistics of local travellers visiting various touristic places for tourism purpose. New tourism act is in the process of being discussed in the parliament. But it is not known if the definition has been changed. Because of this condition in the past, there were several cases where local travellers were stopped by local transport operators for riding a tourist bus.
In the treks, local travellers are not considered as tourist or trekkers. In most places they are treated as casual visitors and of course lodge owner gives priority to foreign tourists.
Hotels and safari camps in major touristic places have been giving local travellers and holidaymakers welcome treatment during tourist offseason only. Beside Indian price for Indian nationals, local people are given a local price which are little cheaper than their normal cost, though not much.
Rafting operators have a special price for local holidaymakers especially when they are in a big group. In fact, local holidaymakers find rafting an easy adventure and a quick break from the day to day life.
The corona pandemic that has been raging since March 2020 has changed the attitude of the tourism industry in Nepal too. The world tourism industry is now banking on home tourism to sustain their business. And Nepal cannot be different in this aspect. Though major tourism entrepreneurs in Nepal are still hoping for spring 2021 to salvage their business yet the present trend in rising corona cases and its victims shows the pandemic situation is unpredictable. Government has not proved it can effectively manage the crisis brought by COVID-19. The containment of corona remained unsuccessful so far.
The prolonged lockdown that started from the end of March 2020 had exhausted public patience. The relaxed rules in July though brought some sort of relief created a fertile ground for the growth of corona cases in Kathmandu valley and outlying districts. Hence administrations were forced to clamp lockdown again from 19th August. This off and on measures may continue to go on.
Despite this unfavourable domestic condition we have attempted to bring some selected trips for domestic tourists. These trips are carefully tailored to local taste and preferences. Most of the trips are very short. These are often described as “weekend break.” The trips that are longer are viable during long public holidays.
