    Chopta and Yumthang valley both lie in North Sikkim and the place is a popular location for tourists. Yumthang is based on lachung section and Chopta on Lachen side. Both the valley erupts in flowers during April and May which makes an excellent journey over the Tibetan plateau. Like Yumthang, Chopta valley is also very famous for flowers and scenic mountain views, and one can even walk on rivers in the winter.

    Yumthang is a beautiful valley that lies in North Sikkim at an altitude of 12,000ft about 135 km from Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. The journey there is like travelling in the Garden of Eden and popularly known as the valley of flowers. As you travel to Yumthang from Lachung, the place has a very picturesque landscape and is lined with numerous varieties of Rhododendrons and other species of flowers blooming in different colours from March to May. Winter offers snowfall and is covered with a white blanket of snow. It makes travel a bit difficult but a valley with snow and mountains makes it equally enticing. Snow skiing is yet another attraction to the tourist in this zone. Yumthang is a nature sanctuary with rivers, natural hot-spring, and spectacular mountain views. The power of natural hot-spring in curing various ailments had been felt worldwide. If you are lucky enough, you might even have a sight of Snow Leopard and Red Panda around the area.

    Lachen is a tribal village at 2926 meters and is ruled by tribal self-government, the Dzumsa. The focal point of all village activity is the Lachen monastery located in the upper section of the village. A good number of villagers are still yak herders and keep migrating with their herd.

    Lachung is a tribal village at 2620 meters, where tribal self-government, the Dzumsa still rule the tribe with its ancient tradition. You will be spending 2 nights at this splendid location of tranquillity, peace and acquaint the unique ways of the village.

    All these make North Sikkim heaven on earth. A typical North Sikkim tour starts from Gangtok then via Kabi Lungtsok 23 km, Phodong 40 km, Mangan 67 km, Singhik 72 km, Chungthang 98 km, Lachung 103 km to 141 km away flower valley Yumthang. On the way lies Singhba Rhododendron Sanctuary and Kanchandzonga National Park. SNT buses from Gangtok leaves at 8-00 and 13-00 hr and reaches Mangan via Phodong and going still 5 km further to Singhik. Indians are free to move upto Tung bridge via Mangan-Shinghik, but beyond the north of Tung restricted area permit is required.

    For the Chopta and Yumthang tour, March-June, Sept-Dec (beginning) is the ideal season. As the China Border is nearby the whole area is sensitive and under military control. Foreigners are required to get RAP to visit the area. Taking snaps are prohibited. You should deposit your camera at a military check post 1 km away from Lachung on the way to Yumthang and only Indian tourist are allowed to visit Gurudongmar Lake at Chopta valley range. Foreign tourist can only visit uptill Chopta valley.

    Transportation: From Kathmandu, take the one hour flight to Bhadrapur (the nearest Nepalese airport to Darjeeling, Sikkim and Kalimpong. Drive to Kakarvitta (Nepal/Indian border 34km), to Siliguri (36km) and to Sikkim - 127 km (5 hours). The nearest airport in India is Bagdogra, where scheduled flights operate from New Delhi, Calcutta and Guwahati. The nearest railheads are Siliguri and New Jalpaiguri (88km) which are connected to Calcutta, New Delhi, Guwahati and other major cities in India.

    Note:Sikkim now has an airport at Pakyong village build recently in 2018. It is 35 km from Gangtok. Druk Air and SpiceJet have started their flights to Pakyong. The nearest airport is Bagdogra. Due to a technical glitch, the flight from Pakyong has temporarily stopped its operation. Will update you once flights are initiated by the Indian government.

  • Day 01: Bagdogra to Gangtok (5 hrs drive / 127 kms / 1676 m)

    Upon arrival you will be received by our representative at Bagdogra Airport. You will now take 5 hours journey to the Land of the Pristine and unspoilt natural beauty – Sikkim, with alpine landscapes and thick luxuriant forests, rivers, torrents and peaceful lakes. Arrive at Gangtok. Check-in at Hotel.

    Day 02: Gangtok 7 point sightseeing
    Day 03: Gangtok – Tsomgo Lake – back to Gangtok
    Day 04: Gangtok to Lachen (4.5 hr drive / 107 km / 2750 m)

    Pick up from their hotels at 9 am. Drive to Lachen (107 km). On the way stop for sightseeing spots like Tashi View Point, Kabi Lungtsok, Naga Waterfall, and the Confluence of Lachen Chu & Lachung Chu at Chungthang. Lunch will be served at Namok a wayside Inn. The whole journey takes about 6-7 hours. By evening you will reach Lachen & your trip for the first day ends.

    Day 05: Lachen to Gurudongmar Lake/Chopta valley (1.5 hr drive/ 30 km / 4000 m) Overnight at Lachen

    After breakfast leave for Thangu & Chopta Valley. Thangu valley occupies a very broad valley at the function of the Thangu Chu, Chopta chu & Lassur Chu. It is situated at an altitude of 14000ft. Both the valley erupts riots of colors in the month of June & July. In the month of Dec/Jan you can play in the snow or even walk across the meandering frozen Chopta River. Leave Chopta valley and move to Lachen for lunch. After Lunch we will visit the tribal village and monastery.

    Day 06: Lachen – Yumthang (1.5 hr / 23 km/3564 m) – Drive to Lachung (86 km /4 hr drive/ 2700 m)

    After breakfast leave for Yumthang (The Ultimate Paradise). Lush green valleys & high peaked mountains all around you. In April/May/June the valley is struck by the riot of colours with Rhododendron, Alpine & Primula flowers. Yumthang is renowned for its Hot Spring which is rich in sulphur. In Nov/Dec/Jan you can enjoy the scenic & panoramic views of the valleys & surrounding mountain ranges with snow-capped peaks. Leave Yumthang and move to Lachung for lunch at 2 pm. After lunch visit Lachung Monastery, Cottage Industry & Waterfall. Night halt at Lachung

    Day 07: Lachung – Gangtok (4 hr / 103km / 2700 m)

    The breakfast will be served as usual. After breakfast leave for Gangtok. On the way if the weather is clear you may get to see Mighty Khangchendzonga from Singhik. Lunch will be served at same hotel at Namok. After lunch visit Phodong Monastery on the way to Gangtok Reach Gangtok.

    Day 08: Gangtok – Rest/Shopping.
    Day 09: Gangtok – New Jalpaiguri/Bagdogra tour concludes.
