    This tour is for enthusiastic mountain bikers that gives an introduction to mountain biking experience in Nepal. Instead of trek we take mountain bike to the north and eastern rim of Kathmandu valley. Our journey starts at Kakani and travel through Shivapuri danda (hill) at the elevation of 2500 meter, Chisopani and to Nagarkot in the first leg of our biking.

    The second leg continues on to Dhulikhel, Panauti and over Lakuri Bhanjyang (pass) and down to Godavari via Bishanku Narayan temple. Kathmandu valley and its rim is a natural treasure. In your travel, you come across villages, forests, historical monuments, and high pass. It is always possible to encounter a marriage ceremony or procession and other cultural activities. The view of the Himalayan range throughout the journey is mind-blowing. You are never far away yet you travel in the midst of nature. For 8 days you would be on the mountain bike on the mountain trail occasionally stopping to look around and enjoy the tour that only a few are fortunate to savour the way you do.

    There are endless opportunities for mountain biking in Kathmandu Valley. You can do a day trip to any number of days depending upon the places of interests and viewpoints. The road and track condition is not always similar. In some places, there are pitched road and in most places, the track condition is narrow, unpaved and dusty. The tracks are commonly used by local people in their day to day work and communication.

    Mountain biking in the Kathmandu valley gives you accesses to many places that are rarely visited by a tourist on a normal tour. You get to see local culture and festivals from a close distance. Of course, the panoramic view of the Himalayan range in spring, autumn and winter season are super. You have the advantage of the speed and freedom to stop and look around. It is an exciting experience of mountain biking in different condition than at home.

    The road and track condition for mountain bike is not always similar. In some places, there are pitched road and in other places, the track condition is narrow, unpaved and dusty. The tracks and walking trails are commonly used by local people in their day to day work and communication.

  • Day 1. Arrive Kathmandu.
    Our office representative will meet your at the airport and escort you to your hotel. In Kathmandu on Bread and Breakfast.
    Day 2. Full day sightseeing tour in Kathmandu.
    In Kathmandu on Bed and Breakfast.
    Day 3. Bike to Kakani. (2000m / 27km).

    Bike to Balaju Botanical garden and continue on to cover 22km of the road to Kakani. Stay overnight at Kakani (2000 m). There is a beautiful view of Ganesh and Langtang Himal and the valley of Likhu Khola (1000 m) below.

    Day 4. Bike to Shivapuri. (2000m / 33km)

    Following the valley rim, we stay high above Kathmandu and 28km. Ride on the mixture of jeep trail and single track through the Shivapuri Reserve. Overnight at Shivapuri. You get to see outstanding views of Annapurna Himal.

    Day 5. Bike to Muklharka. (2000m / 25 km)

    Continue on a single track down the hill and traverse towards Nagi Gompa, a Buddhist Tibetan Monastery. From there descend further down to Budhanilkanth and head east to Muklharka. Overnight at a lodge at Mulkharka.

    Day 6. Bike to Chisopani. (2800m / 15km).

    Uphill bike to Chisopani. The trekking trail leads to a popular trek destination of Helambu. The trail is wide and rough.

    Day 7. Bike to Nagarkot (2100m / 33km).

    You ride down from Chisopani to the northeast corner of the Kathmandu valley. You ride on a mix of single jeep track to Nagarkot, The actual route will depend on the condition of the trails. Overnight in a hotel in Nagarkot.

    Day 8. Bike to Nala and to Dhulikhel. (1500m / 25km)

    Ride through a narrow, winding dirt road to Nala village and make descend further down to a pitched road that gradually winds up to a hill at Sanga. The pitched road then descends to Banepa. The road continues to make a gradual ascend to Dhulikhel. Overnight in a resort at Dhulikhel. The panoramic view of the Himalayan range is a memorable impression.

    Day 9. Bike to Panauti or Balthali (1765m / 22km)

    You climb out of Dhulikhel on dirt and tarmac encountering two hills before reaching the Buddhist pilgrimage site of Namo Buddha. The road is perfect for mountain biking. It is believed that Lord Buddha in his previous incarnation gave his flesh to a hungry tigress as an offering to save the village. A stone statue marks the site, and there is an active monastery. After leaving this hilltop you plunge into the lush fields below to a small village of Panauti. The village appeared to have been lost in time. Panauti is rarely visited by tourists though it has treasured historical and interesting temples such as Indreswor Mahadev. It is the oldest surviving temple in Nepal, believed to be constructed in 1294 AD. Depending upon the condition you may also descend to Balthali and visit Panauti the next day en-route to Kathmandu.

    Day 10. Bike to Sisneri / Godavari (Kathmandu) (2000m / 27km)

    The trail is a mix of wide and narrow but gently climbs up to the pass known as Lakhure Bhanjyang. You follow a jeep track along the meandering Roshi river and make ascend after the small town of Madhuban and enter into a narrow pristine valley that ascends to (300 m) on a superb trail to reach the summit of Kathmandu Valley’s eastern rim known as Lakhuri Bhanjyang. After this pass makes a steep descent to Sisneri. This is probably the oldest route east out of Kathmandu Valley, connecting the ancient cities of Kathmandu valley with Panauti.

    The views of the Himalayas are great. From the saddle, the descent is on the switch-backed jeep track. After an hour and a (500 m) descent, you arrive at Sisneri, a quiet village at the bottom of the valley. The ethnicity of the people changes as you descend to the valley floor. Tamangs lives on the upper section and then Thakuries and Chhetris as you ride down; at the valley floor, there are Newar farmers. Continue the last part of your mountain bike journey from Sisneri to Godavari via Bisankunarayan. Stay Overnight at Godavari or continue on to Kathmandu.

    Day 11. In Kathmandu (BB)
    Rest and free day
    Day 12. Depart Kathmandu
    Transfer to airport. Fly home

The standard varies from place to place depending upon the remoteness of the tour. The tracks and trails are in proximity to many road heads and telephone connection.
