Group trip to EBC and Gokyo Ri – fantastic for trekking and photography

We were a group of 30 ‘young’ trekkers that completed with EBC and Gokyo Ri trek with Kailash Himalaya.

Preparing for the trip was extremely easy, Ramesh from KH was always very quick to answer my questions (and I had quite a few!) and was extremely accommodative with my additional requests being a large group. THANK YOU RAMESH FOR ORGANISING A FANTASTIC TRIP.

Normally when you trek up to EBC, there is no clean water supply so most people buy plastic bottles. I was reluctant for the group to buy plastic water bottles primarily because it would be expensive and I wanted to avoid plastic waste (all waste has to be carried by porters down the mountain) . KH went out of their way to research the most environmentally friendly method to supply water to the group and found a solution where we could be plastic free! A special thanks for the time and effort that was put into making this happen.

We had strict requirement to to have vegetarian (eggless) food on the mountain which was no problem. All meals were really tasty (restaurant standard food at some teahouses) and given we were a big group rarely did we have to wait for the meals. The timing was immaculate. Typical meals consisted of daal baat, momos, vegetable curry, pickles on the side, extra hot chillies for those who dare etc . In fact, I had brought loads of snacks with me but I didn’t touch any of these as we were so well fed!!

Even though we were surrounded by incredible scenery, the trip was extra special because of the people. We were fortunate to be in a very positive energetic group but that was seconded by our friendly mountain guides and sherpas.

A big shout out to BHOLA and BECK our mountain guides and all our sherpas helping guides for making the experience so enjoyable. They were constantly laughing and making jokes with the group but always remained professional. It was quick to ascertain the wealth of experience Bhola and Beck had between them. You’ll find the mountain guides and sherpas will quickly go from being ‘just guides’ to your ‘mountain family’.

After EBC, our group split into 2 with some carrying on to Gokyo Ri and the others descending back to Lukla as planned . If you do have enough annual leave, I definitely recommend the GOKYO RI extension via the CHOLA PASS . See the photos for the stunning views!!!

I don’t have any qualms about the trekking company, they are trustworthy and will go to EVERY EFFORT to provide the BEST experience possible .

There are several trekking companies out there that might offer rates which are a few $ less, but it’s really not worth taking the shortcuts. Choose a trekking company you know you can rely on and consistently provides excellent service. You might still reach EBC but it will be evident in the quality of your accommodation/ meals/ ability to get onto a flight .

Highlights:
– Flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, what a smooth landing!
– Numerous German bakeries en route serving HOT apple pie and chocolate brownies
– Nepalese Daal baat – you won’t get bored of this
– FUN mountain guides and sherpas, always greeting you with a smile
– Trustworthy/ professional mountain team you could rely on
– Hot ginger lemon tea at the end of the day
