Pikey peak trek is a newly discovered trek and has gained more popularity within the trekker's community. Now it is also considered as one of the best short treks. You get to see local farming and their vegetation, and kids in the school and usual greetings by Namaste to visitors. Another attraction is the Pikey peak (4070 m). From Pikey peak, you will get fantastic views of Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse, Numbur, Gaurisankhar, Langtang to the far west can be seen. It also offers the best sunrise and sunset views over the Himalaya. You also pass through beautiful Sherpa settlements with a visit to the 19th-century Buddhist Monastery of Thupten Chholing. During the trek, you will experience traditional livings of different ethnic groups like Sherpa, Chhetri, Tamang and Gurung. You can taste verities of local cuisines and observe some rare plants and animals.
Pikey peak 4,065m used to be a favourite of Sir Edmund Hillary after he climbed it to take a look around during the walk-in on his 1953 expedition.
For several decades after that Pikey was isolated because it was so difficult to get to, and most people doing the Everest Base Camp trek overflew Pikey en route to Lukla. But now with new roads from Kathmandu to Jiri and the Solu Highway reaching Phaplu via Okhaldhunga has made it accessible to local tourist.
You have two option to do this trek :Pikey Peak trek start with a 30 minutes flight to Phaphu or a long drive (7-8 hours) from Kathmandu.
