    Pikey Peak Trek is a newly discovered trekking route in the Khumbu region that lives to every bit of every trekker's fantasy.  Its popularity has been surging among adventure lovers and tourist alike for its close proximity to Everest. If you are constrained in time and want to see Mt. Everest as its best then this is just the right trek for you. On this trek, you are visiting the lower part of the Khumbu region popularly known as Sherpa-land. Most of our trek guides and cook come from these villages. The lower part of the Khumbu regions are pristine, vibrant and gives you an opportunity to involve closely with the local folks.  Visiting local monasteries is a highlight on this trek, the Chewang monastery is one such opportunity. You’ll also be able to experience the Tamang, Magar and Sherpa lifestyle and their cultures. The dramatic scenery of mountains, landscapes, mani walls and Buddhist stupas bounds, beautiful high altitude vegetation, Himalaya floras and faunas, centuries-old monasteries are other highlights on this trek. Visiting Thuptenchholing Monastery (Little Tibet) where you can observe traditional Tibetan medicinal therapy is another attraction.

    Pikey peak 4,065m used to be a favourite of Sir Edmund Hillary after he climbed it to take a look around during the walk-in on his 1953 expedition.

    For several decades after that Pikey was isolated because it was so difficult to get to, and most people doing the Everest Base Camp trek overflew Pikey en route to Lukla. But now with new roads from Kathmandu to Jiri and the Solu Highway reaching Phaplu via Okhaldhunga has made it accessible to local tourist.

    You have two option to do this trek :

    Pikey Peak trek start with a 30 minutes flight to Phaphu or long drive (7-8 hours) from Kathmandu.

    What makes this trek so special?
  • Day 01: Kathmandu to Dhap (2900 m) – 8-9 hours drive

    After breakfast we take a long and winding roads over the villages, forests and hills.( 8 to 9 hours drive) to Dhap which is situated in the banks of Mahakali River. Here you will experience the Brahmin and Chettri ethnic community. Overnight at Dhap

    Day 02: Trek to Jhapre (5 hour)

    Commence trek via wild orchid follower, encountering beautiful landscapes, monasteries and Buddhist stupa in Jhapre. Today you will have a gentle walk through the rhododendron and pine forest. As you move along you’ll reach your first village where you will have a short break and just savour the Himalayan view sightings such as Numbur Himal. We’ll follow the trail which will lead us to Japre village situated at an altitude of 2920m. It is a small ethnic village of the Sherpa and Magar community. The view of  Dudhkunda, Pongday, Makalu, Mera Peak, Cho Yu, Everest, Tsumsherko and Kanchenjunga range is stunningly beautiful.

    Day 03:Trek to Pikey peak (4065 m - 6 Hours)

    This is the highest point of the trek that gives the experience to climb small peak called Pikey (4065m), also while on the trek you will see high altitude vegetation, and Himalaya floras and faunas. The place is majestic, you find centuries-old monasteries, Buddhist stupas and mani stones. Yak herding can be seen in different places.

    Day 04: Trek to Junbesi (2700 m - 5 Hours)

    While trekking up to Pikey, you get to see the panoramic view of Himalayas from  Mt. Kanchenjunga to Dhaulagiri including Mt. Everest. After you cross Pikey peak you walk down through unique landscape to Junbesi valley.

    Day 05: Excursion to Thuptenchholing, return to Junbesi for overnight – (5/6 hours)

    Leisurely start trek to visit great Thuptenchholing Monastery, observe traditional Tibetan medicinal therapy. Chat with nuns and locals. Relax and meditate at the monastery.

    Day 06: Trek to Phaplu (2470 m - 6 Hours)
    Today’s walk on a popular market of Phaplu is relatively easy. Enjoy your day.
    Day 07: Phaplu to Kathmandu . Transfer to Hotel. End of service.

    Drive /Fly from Phaplu to Kathmandu which takes about (35 minutes) flight and a long (10 hrs – 290 kms ) drive. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to hotel.

    Note:The schedule as shown are a guideline only. It may change due to logistic reason and other condition like weather, etc. that are beyond our control. All flights are in the early morning. In winter the thick fog in Kathmandu airport in the morning may delay subsequent flights to and from other destinations.
